In the vast world of hair care, few brands can claim a journey as remarkable as El’Rog. Founded by the visionary entrepreneur Elsie Rogers, this UK-approved natural unisex hair growth and hair care products company has gone from humble beginnings to become a renowned global brand.

Elsie’s inspiration for Unisex Hair Growth was sparked during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a woman going through menopause, she found herself battling with not just hormonal changes, but the stress of lockdown and homeschooling two sons one with Autism and the other preparing for A’Level exams. As she saw her once beautiful hair thinning, she embarked on a quest to find a solution.

This led Elsie to delve into a two-year extensive research on the benefits of natural plants and oils for damaged hair and dry scalp and discovered natural products across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania. Combining her findings with her passion for creating effective solutions, Elsie began experimenting with formulations in her kitchen.

With the help of her intelligent son, Christian, the birth of Opal – a revolutionary unisex hair growth serum – marked the turning point for El’Rog. It is UK cosmetic-approved and uniquely formulated with 14 natural products such as black rice, green tea and rosemary.

Not stopping at hair care alone, Elsie recognized the neglected realm of beard care. Observing that many men failed to give their beards the attention they deserved, El’Rog extended their range to include products like the popular Citrine men’s beard growth and moisturising oil, which is also UK cosmetic-approved.

Today, El’Rog’s products have found their way into Amazon’s FBA in the UK and will be across Europe and Africa by the summer of 2024. Products can be shipped to Africa via her website. With a commitment to creating natural and effective solutions, El’Rog has become a trusted name for individuals seeking to rejuvenate their hair and unleash their full potential.

Beyond her success with El’Rog, Elsie’s professional background brings immense credibility to her brand. With over 25 years of experience in business change and transformation, she has led high-profile projects across various industries, spanning banking, finance, insurance, retail, payment card, and government sectors.

Elsie Rogers’ journey from personal struggle to global hair care success exemplifies the power of persistence, insight, and the determination to create products that truly make a difference. As El’Rog continues to expand its reach, it is clear that Elsie’s passion and transformative vision will remain at the heart of this exceptional brand.

Finally, to forge stronger ties with our customers who may face import expenses, we are eager to extend our affiliate programme to Africa, specifically Nigeria. We are elated to welcome individuals who wish to partake in this opportunity and engage with our brand, while also mitigating any potential financial hardships associated with import fees.

Teach For Nigeria (TFN), a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing education inequities by building a movement of leaders from diverse academic fields to teach in underserved communities as full-time teachers, has launched applications for its eighth cohort of fellows.

The Teach For Nigeria fellowship is a two-year paid commitment that mobilises fresh graduates and professionals as Fellows to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children. Fellows harness their leadership skills while designing solutions to address the everyday struggles of placement schools and communities.

Prior to their placement, each cohort participates in an intensive six-week pre-service training. The training exposes fellows to the organization’s theory of problem and change, its vision, mission, and core values. Fellows are also trained in 21st-century teaching pedagogy, leadership, and entrepreneurship while undergoing a community immersion experience.

In their classrooms, fellows not only have the opportunity to teach but also deepen their understanding of the challenges facing the education sector in Nigeria. They engage and work collectively with community stakeholders to change the trajectory of children in their placement communities. The fellowship goes beyond improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills; it offers fellows the chance to teach today and shape the future of countless children in low-income communities.

Since its inception, TFN has recruited, trained, and placed at least 1,500 exceptional young leaders in over 600 schools across Lagos, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo states. The organization has also impacted over 300,000 students and boasts a growing network of 835 alumni.

Teach For Nigeria is also part of the Teach for All Network, a growing group of locally-led, independent organizations in over 60 countries with the shared purpose of expanding educational opportunities for children worldwide.

Fellowship Benefits And Eligibility Criteria

The Teach For Nigeria 2024 Fellowship offers a wealth of benefits and requires specific eligibility criteria. Applicants must be Nigerian nationals aged between 18 and 35, have completed their NYSC service on or before July 2024, and hold a university degree with at least second-class honours. Accepted fellows will receive a gross monthly stipend of N94,990 for two years, including holidays.

Additionally, they will have the opportunity to pursue a Professional Diploma in Education program through a scholarship. Fellows will gain access to mentors and continuous professional development, enabling them to design and execute social change projects while benefiting from mentorship and networking opportunities with professionals across various industries.

Application Process

The Teach for Nigeria Fellowship selection process has multiple rounds of applications for each cohort. An applicant can apply only once for any cohort. The application involves essay writing, an aptitude test, a telephone interview, group assignment, and a physical assessment, including a mock teaching session. The 2024 fellowship application closes on March 29, with the application outcome and next steps communicated via email.

How to Apply

You can apply for the Teach for Nigeria Fellowship here

The TFN Fellowship Experience

Speaking at the recruitment launch event, Folawe Omikunle, the Chief Executive Officer of Teach for Nigeria stated,

Fellows commit two years to transforming academic and non-academic outcomes for the children during the fellowship. After the two-year fellowship, they continue to unleash their leadership towards addressing the barriers and issues identified while in the fellowship

On the opportunities available for Fellows after the two-year program, Folawe noted,

A number of our alumni have now launched social enterprises, leading successful and growing social enterprises and social impact organizations. We also have some of them working in policy, while others transitioned into working with the government.

Odedeji Gbeminiyi Abisola, a TFN alumna and panelist at the recruitment launch, said,

I went to the Teach For Nigeria pre-service institute as Mrs. Odedeji but came back as a brand new teacher-leader. The fellowship changed the trajectory of my professional journey, helping me to see beyond the four walls of the classroom.

Speaking on the kind of support he received as a Fellow, Kazeem Adekunle Abdulrasak, an alumnus of the fellowship and one of the panelists stated,

The support I receive at Teach For Nigeria started even before I resumed in the classroom. Teach For Nigeria gave me the platform to become part of a community of committed people.

Olukoya Tititobiloluwa Praise, a Teach For Nigeria student, also recounted how her teacher uses video clips and charts to teach and how she learned politeness from her teacher.

The theme of this year’s fellowship is “Teach Today, Shape Tomorrow: Your Leadership Matters Now!” targeting young leaders committed to tackling the country’s most difficult challenges and unleashing the potential of all Nigerian children. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit here to apply.

She wore a custom purple satin chapel train dress with Ankara details and an illusion lace by Nigerian designer Anis Cuts. The dress was hand embellished with fashion stones around its bustier neck, shoulders and sleeves.

She accompanied the look with a soft glam that included mild smokey eye and winged liner finishing it up with a matte nude lipstick. She wore her hair in a low bun with a side bang and a face-framing tendril, which she paired with tiny chandelier earrings.

One of the leading recruitment and HR solutions providers in Sub-Saharan Africa, Jobberman has launched its latest gender responsiveness campaign focused on elevating entrepreneurship and vocational training for young women in Kaduna, Kano, Adamawa, Ondo, Katsina, Bauchi, Delta, Ogun, Benue, Edo, Lagos, and Oyo states. The campaign, tagged ‘She’s More’, launched at a press conference in Lagos, is a female-focused social awareness initiative created to elevate vocational skill training among women and empower them in fields such as baking, tailoring, and cloth making.

According to Jobberman, the goal of the campaign is to train over 558,000 young women in business management, vocational skills, soft skills, and financial literacy and to support about 204,000 of them to start their businesses and help them become employers of labour.

International Women’s Month is a strategic period for us to launch this initiative. It is a testament to our commitment to not only invest in women but to accelerate the economic independence and advancement of women in Nigeria. Our focus of vocational training is to fill the business structure and skills knowledge gap in that sector of the economy,” says Samantha Ifezulike, Head of HR Jobberman Nigeria and Lead Advisor, She’s More Initiative.

“The ‘She’s More’ initiative is designed to deliver targeted intervention programs based on insights gathered on the specific needs of each of our learning states,” she said further. Popular social media influencers Omotara Akanni and Titilope Adedeokun were among the guests present at the press conference launch event.

According to a 2023 report from the (NBS), women had a higher percentage of unemployment in Q3:2023. While women have a higher rate of informal employment and self-employment compared to men, they suffer significant challenges that impede growth, including a lack of proper business skills and knowledge, an improper business structure, and access to finance.

The She’s More Initiative, implemented by Jobberman Nigeria, is said to be a continuation of its ongoing partnership with the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Nigeria Works.

About Jobberman
Founded in 2009, Jobberman started as a recruitment and job search platform but has grown into an all-encompassing career platform offering online career advice, personalised HR solutions for both individuals and institutions, as well as training services for jobseekers.

Inkblot Productions once again teams up with the talented actress and TV host Nancy Isime for the eagerly anticipated thriller Saving Onome, which debuts in cinemas on April 5, 2024.

This week, Inkblot Productions released the official trailer and key art for Saving Onome, directed by Dimeji Ajibola and executive produced by Inkblot co-founders Chinaza Onuzo, Zulumoke Oyibo, and Damola Ademola.

The drama marks the actress’s first film project for 2024. The trailer showed that Nancy and Inkblot still have that unique chemistry that contributed to the success of their previous rodeos —Superstar, their first movie together, Love In A Pandemic and The Set Up 2, which topped Amazon Prime Video as two of the most watched movies of 2023.

Nancy has already started the year on a high note. Earlier this month, she received the Nollywood Trailblazer of the Year Award at the Silverbird “Man of the Year Awards”. In February, YNaija and EbonyLife Films recognised her as one of the 100 most influential contributors to Nollywood’s growth and greatness.

Set in Lagos, the movie follows the journey of two devoted parents fighting against all odds for their chronically ill daughter, Onome. With time running out and a life-saving surgery hanging in the balance, Saving Onome explores the depths of love and the extraordinary measures people take to save those they love.

Written by Janobest Isaac, Saving Onome features a sterling cast that includes Nollywood veterans Keppy Ekpeyong, Femi Jacobs, and Ashionye Michelle Raccah. Other stars include Olumide Oworu, Mary Lazarus and Kelechi Udegbe, with famous comedians and skit makers Nasboi and Nosa Rex also in the cast lineup.

As shoppers enter Rukanda Pride leather store in Harare’s posh Eastlea suburb, they are immediately enveloped by the captivating aroma of fresh leather. Stepping in further, they are surrounded by meticulously crafted leather products. The presentation of impeccable craftsmanship, together with the earthy, woodsy smell evokes a feeling of elegance and opulence. Patrons are attended personally by assistants well versed in leather craft and who can provide unique insight into each item’s detailing and history.

This high-end experience is a far cry from the early life of the store’s 28-year-old proprietor, Paula Marowa.

Orphaned at 9, Marowa always had to work for a living. She helped an aunt sell products at a flea market until her teenage years and then, as soon as she could, she branched out on her own and started sourcing goods from Mozambique to sell in Zimbabwe for a profit.

Willing to try a lot of business ideas, Marowa first encountered leather through an experienced craftsman who had made a good living from his venture.

“The story of Rukanda Pride started in an unconventional way,” she said. “It was never a childhood passion, but an opportunity-driven business. I started Rukanda in 2018 through intergenerational transferring of skills.”

That transfer of skills began with the encounter with the craftsman Marowa still refers to as ‘Mr. Sithole‘, making leather products under a tree at his house in the dormitory town of Chitungwiza near the capital Harare. The experience left such an impression that Marowa later returned and convinced him to partner with her. Sithole would handle the manufacturing while she managed sales and other day-to-day business.

“What I would do is I would go to the client and then advertise the product, get a deposit, which would cover the cost of production to Mr Sithole. Then I deliver the product to the client and then get the balance as my profit,” said Marowa.

A lack of capital meant that she had to wait some time until she could develop the next phase of her plan, however.

“When I registered the company I continued with the same way of operation for about two years before opening a store in Harare,” she said.

Today, her business has become a recognized national brand capable of competing with established players in the market and Marowa is among a crop of young entrepreneurs breathing a new lease of life into Zimbabwe’s once-vibrant leather sector.

While Rukanda Pride now employs about eight people, as she noted in a 2023 interview, scaling has been difficult due to a general scarcity in the country of expert leather craftspeople. The people she employed had to learn from scratch and there were many mistakes made.

“I remember we made a bag that was very flappy and we had one of our clients complain on social media. As a business person that almost took me out of business because it was the first time that as a company we had public humiliation,” Marowa shared in the interview.

While the COVID-19 pandemic brought some disruption to the business, production picked up so much afterwards that she was able to purchase some machines. Further growth and customer expectations also prompted her to widen her product portfolio.

“We moved from belts to wallets, from wallets to bags, and then we came up with a travel collection of duffle bags and satchels,” she explained.

Rukanda Pride’s major selling point is being able to customize products to the exact needs of the customer.

“Leather is a lifetime product, something that you can live with forever. So we try to give that experience to our clients, and we always try to make sure that we feel the experience before we give it out to our clients,” said Marowa, who now has an even bigger ambition for the company.

“Our vision is to grow, expand and be innovative enough to deliver remarkable real leather products within the borders of Africa and beyond,” she said.

A defining moment of her journey was being selected for the 2023 Forbes Under 30 Summit Africa, a convention of Africa’s top young entrepreneurs and game-changers.

While the local market has been promising, she said the main challenge young entrepreneurs face in Zimbabwe is securing funding.

“I have grown Rukanda Pride to this stage through bootstrapping, we have just been reinvesting the profits into the business so that it continues to grow,” she said.

There is certainly no end to the opportunity. Zimbabwean leather is world-renowned and the country possesses a competitive advantage in the global leather value chain thanks to its wide livestock base.

The country lost its place in the global leather market over the past two decades due to crippling economic challenges which resulted in the closure of major companies that employed thousands of workers. However, the sector is now on the rebound and retrenched leather workers are behind the sector’s new shoots, according to Clement Shoko, Chairman of the Zimbabwe Leather Development Council.

“When you have a skills base as good as what we have in the leather value chain, chances of establishing new factories, new companies, it’s very easy. The only issue is that we need access to finance, once we have got access to finance, life becomes very easy,” said Shoko.

“We have got opportunities that are coming our way. We have got excess stocks in terms of the skins. Zimbabwe is an animal country, very beautiful skins, very big skins, the only challenge is that we need to add value on these,” he said, adding that young entrepreneurs coming into the industry are innovating and breathing a new lease of life into the once-vibrant sector.

The continent produces approximately 210 million square meters of leather annually, which accounts for about 4% of the global production. With some of the largest herds in the world, that percentage has plenty of room to grow. Marowa too.

When asked what the secret to the health and length of their friendship is, Mimi said:

Grace and love are the core foundation of our friendship. Our knowledge of each other has also helped us allow ourselves to grow. The love stays constant and never wavers. We have grown in our knowledge of each other and it helps us try our best to love each other as the other person likes to receive.

On handling conflicts in friendship, Sophia encouraged participants to squash disagreements respectfully, without name-calling.

Trusting your friendship helps you navigate the times when your friend(s) can’t be present; giving and extending grace to your friendship. Allow yourself to be themselves without them conforming.

Sophia Ike-Onu

Have an open line of communication.

When asked how they have successfully navigated their friendship for so long, they all said: “At the core, let everything be rooted in love”.

Mimi: “In cultivating friendships, it’s very important that you’re not quick to cut people off. Be willing to extend grace and leave room for the possibility of growth. Seek first to understand before you pull the plug or end the friendship.”

Ini: “Allowing each other to have our mini ritual within the group without allowing jealousy to find a rooting.”

If you want good friendships, start by being a good friend and embodying kindness. Be the person that you want other people to be to you.

The Federal Government has rolled out the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme (PCGS) to empower Nano businesses as part of the Presidential Palliative Program.

Beginning on March 9, 2024, the scheme offers financial grants, without repayment obligations, to eligible small business owners operating in various sectors such as trading, food services, ICT, transportation, creatives, and artisans. The PCGS targets 70% women and youth, 10% people with disabilities, and 5% senior citizens, with the remaining 15% distributed to other demographics.

By focusing on the often overlooked group of business owners, the program seeks to unlock the potential of Nigeria’s burgeoning entrepreneurial ecosystem and drive sustainable economic development at the grassroots level.

The N50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Naira) grant per beneficiary, paid directly to their accounts, aims to reach one million small businesses across the 774 local government areas (LGAs) and the six council areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). With a target of 1,000,000 beneficiaries in each LGA and the FCT, the program has the potential to significantly impact communities nationwide.

Beneficiaries of the initiative have been selected through a rigorous process that includes the verification of each business owner through their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The successful applicants met specific criteria, including owning a small business with progressive economic potential, a willingness to grow, and engage at least one additional staff member when necessary. Applicants also provided proof of residential/business address and relevant personal and bank account information before the December 18, 2023 deadline.

The initiative is implemented by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment with the Bank of Industry as the Executing Agency.

For more information about the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme (PCGS), please visit the official website.

Anthony Joshua has once again proved that his boxing abilities are not to be taken for granted. In a heavyweight boxing fight against Francis Ngannou, the champion knocked out the former UFC heavyweight champion, Ngannou, with three knockdowns in less than two rounds.

The fight took place yesterday, Friday, March 8, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Although slated for 10 rounds, Joshua floored Ngannou with a vicious right hand before knocking him down twice in the second round, leaving him flat out for the count, which ended the contest.

This victory brings Joshua, a two-time former unified world heavyweight champion, a step closer to a potential fight with WBC champion, Tyson Fury.

Have you ever tried typing a word in your native language, like “uwa” for mother in Hausa or “chakula” for food in Swahili, only to find that something’s off? You change your keyboard, yet it doesn’t display your words accurately. The typeface may even look strange.

You’re not alone. This is a common frustration many face when trying to express themselves in their mother tongue. It is also a major reason that Chisaokwu Joboson created the “Ojuju” typeface, “Many typefaces do not cater to African languages,” he says. “Ojuju was designed to support 514 African indigenous languages. So this means a lot of letters (or glyphs) in your language alphabet which you would usually not be able to type easily in many typefaces can be found in the “Ojuju” typeface. Africans mustn’t feel uncatered for in the grand scheme of things concerning design and communication and the Ojuju typeface is one out of many to help solve that, aside from being a pretty-looking font.”

Of the 7,000 languages spoken globally, 6,700 are indigenous and at risk of disappearing every two weeks, according to UNESCO (The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation). Nigeria and Cameroon are among the countries with endangered languages.

Given these challenges, especially in a digital era, people should be able to find their languages on a keyboard that caters to their communication needs. The necessity for suitable fonts and keyboards in preserving African languages, whether on the internet or in print, is more critical than ever.

The “Ojuju” typeface addresses this gap and contributes to the promotion of indigenous African languages.

“We are moving towards an era where digital communication in indigenous African languages will be possible. For example, Africans will be able to use apps that have an option for their languages, just like Asians do. Learning will also be digitally possible in African languages. Achieving this requires creating structures that enable African languages to thrive, and African typography is at the centre of this effort.”

The choice of the name for the typeface, “Ojuju,” draws inspiration from Chisaokwu’s childhood fascination with African Masquerades. In Nigeria, “Ojuju” is a popular word to refer to masquerades. When deciding on a name for his typeface, he knew he wanted it to reflect his memories of masquerades.

“As a child, the mention of this name would have us kids either running away to hide or running toward the masquerade to catch a glimpse. Whenever I visited my hometown in Enugu, I would see the village masquerades and be captivated by their intricate identities, swift movements, fiery looks, and intriguing stories. When Google Fonts approached me to design a typeface with African essence, I was already exploring type design and searching for ways to create contemporary fonts that could support African languages. And so I chose the name “Ojuju” for my typeface. It is an easy-to-remember name that rolls off the tongue as well.”

The Board of TVC Communications, the parent company of TVC News, TVC Entertainment channel, Max FM and Adaba FM, has announced that its CEO and Managing Director, Andrew Hanlon, is standing down after seven successful years leading one of Nigeria’s largest media companies.

Under Hanlon’s leadership since 2017, TVC Communications achieved a remarkable 330% audience growth across all platforms, reaching 23 million daily viewers, listeners, and readers by December 2023. He also implemented significant organizational and infrastructural changes that streamlined operations, improved revenue, and brought the company to profitability.

He will step down from his role on April 30th 2024.

Paying tribute to Hanlon, the Chairman of the Board of Continental Broadcasting Services. (owners of TVC Communications) Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti said:

When Andrew joined us as Group CEO he was like a breath of fresh air and the missing link we needed. He brought his vast experience of 30+ years in the broadcasting business to bear and turned the fortunes of the group around and made it very profitable. His attention to detail and his proactive organisational skills ensured that the quality of our programmes and ratings improved exponentially and we became one of the biggest and most respected TV news stations and broadcast businesses in Nigeria. Andrew also demonstrated strong commitment to our 500 staff by improving pay, conditions, and general welfare by being certified twice as a Great Place to Work, making TVC Communications one of Nigeria’s best employers.

Andrew has set a very high bar and will be replaced by our current Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Mrs Victoria Ajayi, who has proven to be steady and reliable and will have to ensure that we keep moving forward seamlessly

Commenting on his decision to step down as CEO & Managing Director, Andrew Hanlon said:

It has been a privilege and an honour to have led TVC Communications over the past seven years having worked with so many talented and dedicated staff.

We achieved great things as a team including the relaunch of our two TV channels, the creation of MAX FM radio in Lagos and Abuja and the launch of our social media platforms, which together, led to significant audience and revenue growth. I wish to thank the Board of the

company for their unstinting support, and in particular, the Chairman of the Board, Mr Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, for his guidance and encouragement. I also wish to express my appreciation to my senior management teams over the years who worked tirelessly with me to help achieve our goals and aspirations.

I wish also to pay special tribute to Mr Ronan Redmond, our Commercial Director, who will also step down on April 30th, after serving with us since 2017. He is, without question, one of the best strategic media revenue specialists in our sector and I am grateful to him for producing outstanding revenue results every year and for his support to me personally.

Finally, I am delighted that our Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Victoria Ajayi, will now take over the running of the company and bring it to even greater success. Aside from being a very talented chartered accountant, she has an in-depth knowledge of our business and a desire to continue the pathway to growth and development. I believe she will also be the only female to run a national media company in Nigeria at this time which fits seamlessly with our core values of promoting talented women in the workplace.

It has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs, and I am immensely proud of the key achievements we have accomplished together, and I look forward to driving the company to greater heights and success.”

In addition to my extensive experience in strategic management, I bring a strong educational background that complements my professional expertise. As a Fellow of ACCA with an MBA from IESE Business School, I come with a unique blend of expertise in not just finance but leadership capabilities that will drive business growth. Similarly, as a member of the Institute of Directors and The Society for Corporate Governance, Nigeria, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and ethical leadership in our organisation. The Board of TVC Communications, owners of TVC News and TVC Entertainment channels Max FM and Adaba FM, has announced that its CEO and Managing Director, Andrew Hanlon, is stepping down after seven years leading one of Nigeria’s largest media companies.

Since joining in 2017, Hanlon is said to have overseen significant organisational, infrastructural, and economic changes, including delivering growth of 330% across all TV, radio, and social media channels from a daily audience of about 5.3 million viewers, listeners, and readers to about 23 million by December 2023, in addition to substantial operating cost and revenue improvements, bringing the company to profitability in that time.

He will step down from his role on April 30th, 2024.

Paying tribute to Hanlon, the Chairman of the Board of Continental Broadcasting Services Ltd. (owners of TVC Communications), Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti said:

When Andrew joined us as Group CEO, he was like a breath of fresh air and the missing link we needed. He brought his vast experience of 30+ years in the broadcasting business to bear, turned the fortunes of the group around, and made it very profitable. His attention to detail and his proactive organisational skills ensured that the quality of our programmes and ratings improved exponentially, and we became one of the biggest and most respected TV news stations and broadcast businesses in Nigeria. Andrew also demonstrated strong commitment to our 500 staff by improving pay, conditions, and general welfare by being certified twice as a Great Place to Work, making TVC Communications one of Nigeria’s best employers.

Andrew has set a very high bar and will be replaced by our current deputy chief financial officer, Victoria Ajayi, who has proven to be steady and reliable and will have to ensure that we keep moving forward seamlessly.”.

Commenting on his decision to step down as CEO and Managing Director, Andrew Hanlon said:

“It has been a privilege and an honour to have led TVC Communications over the past 7 years, having worked with so many talented and dedicated staff.

We achieved great things as a team, including the relaunch of our two TV channels, the creation of MAX FM radio in Lagos and Abuja, and the launch of our social media platforms, which together led to significant audience and revenue growth. I wish to thank the Board of the company for their unstinting support, and in particular, the Chairman of the Board, Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, for his guidance and encouragement. I also wish to express my appreciation to my senior management teams over the years who worked tirelessly with me to help achieve our goals and aspirations.

I also wish to pay special tribute to Ronan Redmond, our commercial director, who is also stepping down after serving with us since 2017. He is, without question, one of the best strategic media revenue specialists in our sector, and I am grateful to him for producing outstanding revenue results every year and for his personal support of me.

Finally, I am delighted that our Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Victoria Ajayi, will now take over the running of the company and bring it to even greater success. Aside from being a very talented chartered accountant, she has in-depth knowledge of our business and a desire to continue the pathway to growth and development. I believe she will also be the only female to run a national media company in Nigeria at this time, which fits seamlessly with our core values of promoting talented women in the workplace.”

Incoming Group CEO/MD, Victoria Ajayi, said:

” I am deeply honoured and humbled to accept the position of Group CEO/MD at TVC Communications.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to every member of the board for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity to lead our organisation into its next chapter of growth and success.

Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of serving in the company in different capacities, which led to my last role as Deputy CFO, where I’ve been supporting our outgoing CEO in navigating the complexities of our industry and driving our company forward. It has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs, and I am immensely proud of the key achievements we have accomplished together. I look forward to driving the company to greater heights and success.

In addition to my extensive experience in strategic management, I have a strong educational background that complements my professional expertise.

Having participated in programmes at prestigious institutions such as Cambridge Judge Business School, Harvard Business School, and BBC, I am fully committed to building upon our past successes and leading our company to new heights of innovation, resilience, and prosperity.

With the support of our talented team and the guidance of the board, I am confident that we will continue to be a leader in the media and broadcast industry.”

IKAKI fabric, a traditional material of the Ijaw people, is experiencing a resurgence thanks to the work of Boma, a local wearable artist.

IKAKI, which translates to ‘tortoise’ in most dialects of the ijaw or ijoid language of Southern Nigeria, is also referred to its highly revered hand-woven fabric whose appearance is in semblance with the carapace of a tortoise which consists of the animal’s ossified ribs fused with the dermal bone to present a 3D effect and mosaic sequence.

The IKAKI fabric is the unifying fabric of the Ijaw people and has been so for many years, sitting at the bottom of our mother’s trunk boxes.

Historically, IKAKI is traced to have been first introduced as a gift by the colonial masters. The fabric comes in different mosaics, chief among them is the ‘BILA IKAKI’ which has an elephant side-view imprint and is mostly presented in monochrome.

Like the AKWETE of Eastern Nigeria and ASO-OKE of Western Nigeria which made their own return to the urban fashion scene, heralded by wearable artists like Deola Sagoe, Emmy Kasbit, Nkwo etc.

The IKAKI, from the Niger Delta, has joined the race to become a globally accepted ethnic fashion statement from waist to runway.

As seen in the documentary written by Teinye Boyle and presented by Boma Ogidigben, the IKAKI made it’s first runway debut at the Portharcourt Fashion Week 2023 and also returned in 2024 at the Nook International Fashion Week to a visually impressed audience.

Boma Ogidigben, the pioneer of IKAKI’s re-introduction has dedicated under the House of Bo brand – a diffusion line ‘Bo Zillion’ to express more novelty designs in the preservation of IKAKI’s fashion future while encouraging other indigenous artists to look towards tribe and culture for their inspirations.

The documentary of IKAKI (the re-introduction ) has been released to the public as learning material for fashion historians and enthusiasts around the world.

Explore IKAKI further: Watch the documentary here and see an excerpt from Bo Zillion’s runway presentation.

BoZillion announces the launch of their website, Discover their collections and engage with their mission to promote African culture.

Simidele Adeagbo is putting Nigeria on the map again.

Over the weekend, she made history as the first African athlete to compete in Bobsleigh at the BMW IBSF World Championship in Winterburg, Germany. Nigeria also became the first African country represented in bobsleigh at a World Championships in the 100-year history of IBSF.

Bobsleigh, also known as bobsled, is a team winter sport where timed runs are made in a gravity-powered sledge down small, winding, banked, icy tracks. The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation governs bobsleigh competitions across the world (IBSF).

The Nigerian-Canadian skeleton racer competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics, where she finished 20th and became Nigeria and Africa’s first female skeleton athlete. She also made history as the first black female Olympian in the sport. More recently, in 2022, she won the women’s mono bob event in the 2022 EuroCup, becoming the first athlete from Africa to win an international sledge race.

“This weekend I will make history for Nigeria as the 1st African athlete to compete in bobsleigh at the BMW IBSF World Chams,” she wrote on her Instagram account.

This is the FIRST time ever the continent of Africa will be represented in bobsleigh at a World Champs in the 100 years since @ibsfsliding was founded. I want to take a moment to celebrate this significant barrier that took a century to break. Too often our historic contributions are not recognized, undervalued, and forgotten. So as we celebrate BHM, I’m honored to write another chapter in the new future of sport.

This first will be forever recorded in history, paving the way for greater access and inclusion in the primarily Eurocentric, male-dominated sport of bobsleigh. This historic moment is a testament to hard work and dreaming more than others think is practical As I break this barrier on the ice, through the work of the @simisleighsfoundation, I continue to break the barriers that limit women and girls’ opportunities to reach their full potential.
